Job Opening - Victim Advocate

LifeHouse Child Advocacy Center, a Non-Profit agency located in Topeka, Kansas is seeking a full time Victim Advocate.

General Description:
The primary purpose of this position is to provide advocacy services, support and referrals for child victims and their non-offending family members when sexual abuse and/or serious physical abuse has been alleged to the children and families being served by LifeHouse. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Victim Services, Human Services or related field.
  • Experience working within the social service and/or judicial system.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of individuals and agencies.
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues and dynamics with families in crisis relating to child sexual abuse.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Excellent computer skills with knowledge of Excel, Word, Access, and Outlook

 

Other duties and responsibilities include, but may not be limited to the following:

  • Advocate for the needs and well-being of child victims and their families.
  • Provide initial on-site and follow-up services to non-offending caregivers of children alleging sexual and/or physical abuse. 
  • Coordinate appropriate referrals for services. 
  • Assist in filing applications for Crime Victim's Compensation.
  • Initiate follow-up contact to ensure the child and family have access to specialized resources to resolve issues related to victimization. 
  • Provide ongoing follow-up as needed with non-offending caregivers to provide emotional support and monitor additional needs or concerns. 
  • Maintain contact with the victim and family throughout the investigation and prosecution when requested by the family or the law enforcement officer
  • Assist and attend monthly case review and follow through with any recommendations of the team that would require the services of the advocate.
  • Participate in community education and awareness programs.
  • Assist in gathering, compiling, and entering statistical information into database.
  • Provide court accompaniment during judicial proceedings.
  • Administrative duties.
  • Assist in fundraising activities.
