LifeHouse's Pinwheel Protector Campaign

posted Oct 28, 2020, 7:34 AM by Jill Shehi Chapman   [ updated Oct 28, 2020, 7:35 AM ]

LifeHouse's first ever Pinwheel Protector Campaign is happening now! The campaign, which kicked off October 19th, 2020, is happening through November 5th, 2020.

We want to thank our sponsors for helping us make this campaign happen! Evergy, Security Benefit and the Shawnee County District Attorney's office!

The pinwheel is the national symbol for child abuse prevention, and serves as a physical reminder of the great childhoods we want for all children. By its nature, the pinwheel exudes playfulness, joy and childhood.  Unfortunately, too many children are robbed of this feeling and have been a victim of sexual abuse, severe physical abuse or witnessed violent crime.

Our goal is to raise awareness and much needed funds to continue providing services to child victims in our community.  We have created 279 pinwheels, one for each child who received a forensic interview at LifeHouse in 2019, and placed them on our front window.  The pinwheels completely cover our oversized window!

During the Pinwheel Protectors Campaign you can help us clear our window and help protect kids!  It’s super easy, buy a pinwheel and it will be removed from the window. Pinwheels are $20 apiece.  We have 279 available so buy as many as you want! To purchase your pinwheel(s) you can call or email LifeHouse, make a donation through Facebook, or mail a check directly to LifeHouse.

For those who purchase pinwheels, LifeHouse staff invites you to come remove your pinwheel(s) yourself if you’d like!  And of course we would love to share it with a photo and a shout out to you on Facebook!   We will be doing this on Fridays from 12:00-1:00 or by appointment only so call or email LifeHouse if you are interested.

We also have matching opportunities!  If you would like to match some pinwheels yourself, or in honor of someone, contact us for further details or to provide your information.  We have a special “Match” wall to acknowledge your gift!

Follow along on Facebook now through November 5 and watch how supporters clear our window!  Also, make sure to check in on our Facebook live over the lunch hour every Friday for updates and to watch our pinwheel protectors take down child abuse!  #PinwheelProtectors #PinwheelProtectorsCampaign

LifeHouse's 2nd Sidewalk Chalk for Children - Virtual Edition

posted Apr 15, 2020, 3:10 PM by Jill Shehi Chapman

Every year during April, people across the nation raise awareness for at-risk children and families with Child Abuse Prevention Month. As a way to keep things fun and interesting, one of the ways that LifeHouse participates in Child Abuse Prevention Month is by hosting a Sidewalk Chalk Event. This year, we are practicing #SocialDistancing by taking this event virtual!

Blue is the color that symbolizes Child Abuse Prevention Month! So on April 15th, get the blue chalk out, take your family outside, and decorate those sidewalks! Don't have blue chalk? No worries! This event is all about having fun and supporting Child Abuse Prevention!

After you have decorated those sidewalks, snap some pictures and post them to Facebook with the hashtag #HelpingKidsBeKidsAgain, #LHSidewalkChalk, or #LHChildAbusePrevention or you can tag LifeHouse Child Advocacy Center's Facebook page! Feel free to email your pictures to!

Have Fun & Chalk Those Sidewalks!

LifeHouse's Sidewalk Chalk for Children

posted Apr 3, 2019, 8:34 AM by Jill Shehi Chapman

To help bring awareness during National Child Abuse Prevention Month,

LifeHouse is hosting our first “Sidewalk Chalk for Children” event on

Tuesday, April 16th starting at 7pm

on the sidewalks of Kansas Avenue between 7th and 10th Street in Downtown Topeka!

We will be providing blue chalk, free water, and good company to anyone who would like to help us decorate the sidewalks (strictly) in chalk, (preferably) in blue! In addition, those of us from LifeHouse will be dressed in blue, and encourage others to do so as well.

Attendees are more than welcome to spread the word, or bring friends and family members alongside to have a good time for a good cause!
